Hi, My name is Deb (Deborah) Kopeschny and I am a psychotherapist and art therapist seeing clients at the Healing Collective. I offer psychotherapy, and/or art therapy for children, adolescents, and adults who are struggling with issues and would like to make changes in their life.
I offer a collaborative and warm space for clients to work through difficult issues and find new coping strategies through the use of art therapy, body-oriented sensorimotor psychotherapy, and talk therapy. I work eclectically with you the client, in an approach that fits your goals and comfort level. Through Art Therapy, you can express beliefs, emotions and experiences which are difficult to verbalize, and do not require any artistic skill. Initially, we will develop a relationship, and gain an understanding of your immediate and long-term issues and goals. Along with art therapy, some of the other psychotherapeutic approaches I integrate include sensorimotor psychotherapy, mindfulness, cognitive behavioural therapy, solution focused therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy.
I have over 2 years’ experience working with domestic violence survivors, refugees, child sexual abuse survivors, sexual assault victims, individuals identifying as LGBTQ, and individuals with PTSD (interpersonal, vehicular and violence) and childhood trauma. I have over 4 years’ experience working with individuals with chronic mental illness, including mood disorders like depression and anxiety; and personality disorders like borderline personality disorder, and dissociative identity disorder.
I understand that life can be a complex field of triggers, tasks, accomplishments and difficulties. I specialize in being patient, compassionate and validating. Together we develop a treatment goal to help you live a possible and hopeful life. I believe that through creative problem solving and psycho-education we can find coping skills and resources to empower you to live more satisfactorily.
I believe all people have the need and ability to create. Verbal and non-verbal expression of emotions, issues and stressors can bring solutions and wholeness – physically, emotionally and spiritually to people’s life.
For pleasure, I spend time with my dog Sadie going for walks and in nature with my husband and family. I am a creative spirit, and I enjoy quilting, drawing Zentangles, and reading.
I am at the Collective on Tuesdays from 5-9 PM or by appointment. If you would like to book a free phone consultation to see if we are a good fit, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I look forward to meeting you!
