I am a Therapist and Registered Social Worker who has been providing care to children, youth and families in Toronto for 8 years in a variety of settings. The majority of my career has been spent supporting youth and their families who have struggled to find support in other therapeutic spaces and/or are facing systemic barriers to care. I strive to create a therapeutic space where people feel heard and that they are guiding their own healing journey.
As a white, queer and trans person, I base my work in anti-oppressive and liberatory values. This means that I reflect on and acknowledge inherent power dynamics present in therapy sessions, and make space to navigate these dynamics as needed. I also see the person I am working with as knowledgeable and an active participant in therapy.
On top of my Master’s in Social Work, I have an undergraduate degree in Drama in Education and Community. Through this I have training in: play, puppetry, movement, acting, therapeutic clowning, children’s theatre, improvisation for self-development, theatre of the oppressed and lots more! When I am working with people of all ages, we may explore play, movement, and arts-based activities in our therapy space. I have a diploma in Child and Youth Work, and I have also completed the Trauma Certificate through Wilfrid Laurier University.
My therapeutic approach is relational, attachment and trauma focused. I use models of healing that create space for personal story building/restructuring, and gaining respect for the ways the body and mind have survived. I use psychoeducation to help people feel informed about mental health. I work collaboratively, with the understanding that I may bring a certain expertise, but that everyone has knowledge about their own healing.
I am trained in Attachment Based Family Therapy, EMDR, and Trauma Assessment and Intervention. I also have training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Brief/Short-Term/Solution Focused Therapy, Structural Dissociation Theory and Internal Family Systems Theory, and somatic therapy approaches.
