(She/Her Pronouns)
I am a registered social worker who has been counselling people through their mental health struggles for over 30 years.
As a counsellor/therapist, I value mental health differences and I work with people, not pathologies. I’m mindful of power imbalances in systems, and use a trauma-informed, person-centred approach in my work to keep clients in the driver’s seat. I work with a combination of therapeutic modalities, including Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Narrative, Solution-Focused, Mindfulness and Self-Compassion.
I bring a practical and supportive approach to my counselling/therapy. I listen actively and I’m skilled in helping to loosen the areas where one can get stuck, enabling you to move in your intended direction.
My specialties include helping people learn to manage their anxiety and depression, including those brought on by COVID19, working with folks new or returning to therapy, and supporting adults diagnosed with mental health issues (eg. mood disorders, hearing voices, post-traumatic stress). I also help adults work through major life transitions – such as navigating new cancer/health diagnosis, entering or ending work life, managing post-secondary school stress, and dealing with mid-life changes.
I am a social worker who is naturally focused on equity, inclusion and social justice. I also have personal experiences with anxiety, loss, family mental health, and late-life learning, which have all amplified my empathy of various life transitions and challenges.
Balance is something I value in my counselling/therapy work, and in my personal life. In my downtime, you might find me working on my goal of hiking the Bruce Trail end-to-end, tucking my nose into a good book, or enjoying tea-time on the Danforth.
I offer appointments at the Healing Collective mostly on Wednesdays and Thursdays. My rate is $130 for a 1 hour session, and I offer a limited number of sliding scale sessions.
