(She/Her Pronouns)

Welcome!

Here’s a little about me to help you decide whether I might be the right therapist for you.

I am a Registered Psychotherapist with a Masters in Counselling Psychology from the University of Toronto/OISE and have over a decade of counselling experience in the areas of postpartum health & parenting, reproductive health, and sexual assault.

Perhaps you are overwhelmed with anxious thoughts, feeling stuck or conflicted, or worried that you’re not showing up in your life the way you want to. You might be struggling with a life transition – like becoming a parent, changing careers, or wanting clarity on a relationship – or perhaps you are living with a trauma that needs to be healed. I support individuals by helping them find inner acceptance, learn how to soothe distress, and feel able to experience peace and enjoyment in their life.

I recognize the value of your lived experience, and I work to help you make meaning out of your story and discover your best path forward. I integrate a trauma-informed approach with acceptance-commitment therapy, emotion-focused therapy, EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) and internal family systems therapy (“parts” work). I use an anti-oppressive, anti-racist framework, and integrate feminist therapy to consider how your experiences and behaviour are impacted by the social systems that you exist in. I understand that therapy is an investment, and we will set goals and work together to find the best tools and techniques to help you thrive.

My own experiences of becoming a parent to my three children led me to focus on supporting parents and families. I work with individuals navigating the often challenging journey to becoming parents, including those experiencing fertility struggles, pregnancy and infant loss, and birth trauma. I am Perinatal Mental Health Certified (PMH-C) through Postpartum Support International and have extensive experience working with new mothers to ease the sometimes difficult transition into parenthood. I co-facilitate parent support groups, and work with individuals to help them manage parenting struggles and forge their own identities to become the kind of parent they truly want to be.

With me, you will be able to share your story in a compassionate, judgement-free space and hopefully feel safe to experiment with a different way of being. You can visit my website at www.yzobelahyett.com to find information on my fees and learn more about my approach.
