You’re seeking support and wondering if I might be the right therapist for you. Here’s a little about me to help you decide.
I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with a Masters in Counselling Psychology from the University of Toronto/OISE and have over ten years of counselling experience in the areas of parenting, women’s health, and sexual assault.
Maybe you are struggling with depression, anxiety, feeling like a fraud, or that nothing you do is good enough. You might be struggling with a life transition – coming to terms with a diagnosis, graduating school, parenthood, a relationship ending – or perhaps you are grieving a life experience or living with a trauma that needs to be healed. I support individuals on their journey of self-understanding with the goal of helping them feel more in control of their thoughts and feelings, more connected in their relationships with others, and able to experience peace and enjoyment in their life.
I work from a client-centred perspective. This means that I recognize the value of your lived experience, and I work to help you make meaning out of your story and discover your best path forward. I integrate a trauma-informed approach with acceptance-commitment therapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy, relational, and emotion-focused therapy. I incorporate anti-oppressive/feminist therapy to consider how your experiences and behaviour are impacted by the social systems that you exist in. I understand that therapy is an investment, and we will set goals and work together to find the best tools and techniques to help you thrive.
My own experiences of birthing and raising my three children led me to focus on supporting parents and families. I have extensive experience working with new mothers to ease the sometimes difficult transition into parenthood, and I am Perinatal Mental Health Certified (PMH-C) through Postpartum Support International. I offer practical strategies for parents of older children who are looking to improve family functioning and help their children become their best selves. My core belief is that you are the expert on your baby, your children, and your family.
My clients tell me that they appreciate my compassionate and collaborative approach. With me, you will be able to share your story in a warm, judgement-free space and hopefully feel safe to experiment with a different way of being. You can visit my website at www.yzobelahyett.com if you would like to learn more about me.
I am available on Thursday evenings from 5-9pm. You can reach me at email@example.com with any questions or to schedule a free 20-minute consultation.
