Melissa Taylor MSW, RSW (she/her/we)
EMDRIA approved EMDR consultant
I am accepting new clients.
As a third culture kid growing up in east Toronto, she developed deep understanding of cultural identity and intergenerational experiences, Melissa brings a culturally responsive and trauma-informed perspective to her work. She supports people who are navigating the effects of trauma, colonization, identity-based oppression, relationship challenges, and experiences that may have been passed through families and communities across generations.
As an EMDRIA –approved EMDR consultant, Melissa incorporates EMDR and other evidence-informed approaches based on each client’s needs and goals. Her work recognizes that trauma can affect not only our thoughts and emotions, but also our bodies, relationships, sense of identity, and connection to others.
Melissa is particularly passionate about supporting Black, racialized, and 2SLGBTIA+ individuals. Her practice is grounded in anti-racist, anti-oppressive, and Black feminist frameworks, and she recognizes that our mental health is shaped not only by individual experiences, but also by our families, cultures, communities, histories, and the systems in which we live.

What You Can Expect
Beginning of therapy can feel vulnerable, particularly when past experiences have made it difficult to feel safe, understood, or connected. Melissa strives to create a therapeutic relationship where clients can move at a pace that feels manageable and where their experiences are met with curiosity, respect, and compassion.
Melissa is the Clinical Director of Ancestral Memory Therapy, where her work is centered on trauma, PTSD, intergenerational healing, and reconnecting with ancestral and cultural experiences. She also provides psychotherapy through The Healing Collective in Toronto.
If you are looking for a trauma therapist who understands the intersections of trauma, identity, culture, race, relationships, and intergenerational experiences,
